Frequently Asked Questions
CAN YOU BLEND CALIICO MARKERS?
Alcohol based markers can be blended without any streaks showing. This means you aneed fewer colors than you would with the water based equivalent, which can’t be blended as easily. So rather than carrying hundreds of water based markers, you will only need our set of 48 alcohol based markers!
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO STORE THESE MARKERS?
MY MARKERS BLEED THROUGH THE PAPER, WHAT CAN I DO?
When used on soft paper such as copy paper, alcohol based inks tend to soak in and be absorbed by the paper. We recommend you use specialist bleed-proof marker paper for an extra professional finish. If you do need to work on softer paper, be careful that the ink does not bleed through and stain the surface below. You may even try resting on a sheet of greaseproof paper.
HOW LONG DO THE MARKERS LAST?
The simple answer is, it depends how much you use them. Each marker contains 3 grams of ink. With normal use, we would expect the markers to last about 2 years.
CAN YOU TELL US WHAT COLORS WE ARE GETTING?
Yes, we have a color chart specific to the 48 marker set on the website. You can also find it on Amazon.com. If you are unable to find it, you can contact us directly via the "Contact" section on this website.
HOW YOU I DISPOSE OF CALIICO MARKERS?
If you need to dispose of the markers, they should be sorted with non-flammable garbage.
CAN THE MARKERS BE USED ON METAL, GLASS, PLASTIC, ACRYLIC OR FILM?
The answer is no, basically. Because these surfaces are non-porous, the ink will just pool on the surface of the material. This means that the ink will easily be removed/smudged if it is scrubbed. However, Caliico markers may be used for weathering techniques on plasitc, after applying the matte spray paint.
I GOT SOME INK ON MY CLOTHES, HOW DO I GET IT OUT?
We don't recommend you wear your favorite shirt when you use Caliico markers! Wear something that you don’t mind getting dirty. Caliico ink does not come out of clothes easily. We don't recommend using a solvent. It may worsen the situation because the ink is a dye ink. Ink stains react differently depending on the type of fabric that it’s spilled onto. We strongly recommend that you seek the advice of cleaners.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WATER-BASED AND ALCOHOL BASED MARKERS?
Water based markers contain a water based solution which is light fast (designed to resist fading when exposed to natural light), and acid free. These qualities make water-based markers ideal for scrapbooking or other archival projects. Alcohol markers contain alcohol based dye ink. This means you are less likely to get streaks in your work and more vibrant colors that can be applied to a diverse range of materials.
